Step 1
Schedule a discovery flight with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

Your first flight is a one-on-one, 30-minute ground lesson followed by a 30-minute flight where you take the controls! During your first flight, we will teach you the basics of the flight controls and characteristics of the helicopter.

After the flight, we would be happy to sit down with you and answer any questions that you may have about our flight school, flying helicopters, or anything else.

Step 2
Learn the basics in the air and on the ground

Your first phase of training consisting of 20-30 hours of dual instruction flight time in the air and approximately 10 hours of ground instruction.  This is when you will learn the primary skills required to fly the helicopter. Most flights will be in the local area and your ground class will be taught one-on-one with your flight instructor.

Step 3
Solo Flight

Now that you have learned the primary skills of being a helicopter pilot, it is time to fly solo.  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires each applicant to fly 10 hours of solo flight time to earn your license.  Your instructor directly supervises each solo flight and you will be well prepared before taking off on this exciting challenge.

Step 4
Cross country and night flight

During this phase, you will fly outside of the local training area and learn to flight at night. This is a great time to put your training to the test as you learn how to operate in new environments such as new cities, hidden mountain lakes, rivers, islands, and even up to Canada! This portion of your training is as flexible as you want it to be and we will tailor your cross-country training to prepare you for future trips that you will be able to take as a rental pilot.

FAA Check-ride

The FAA check-ride consists of both an oral and flight examination.  After passing the exam you will be a certified helicopter pilot for the rest of your life, the license never expires!  Most people are nervous and excited to take their check-ride and we will make sure that you have all the skills, knowledge, and training needed to succeed!
